PetSmart Veterinary Services Southern Pines
To do a same day release requires a FAVN blood test, at least two rabies shots, and a health certificate done within 10 days of traveling. We keep printed copies of every document throughout the process, and uploaded our part of the documentation onto Hawaii’s pet owner portal.
7 days before flying we completed the health certificates. When we realized a hiccup with our health certificates (2 days prior to flying out) we called Petsmart Veterinary Services. They helped us out immediately and made sure everything was in order.
Dr. Manning Brady also provided meds for flying for both our pets to minimize their stress. Both pets arrived safely and were allowed a quick release. They were ready to be released by the time we completed picking up our baggage.

Why PetSmart Veterinary Services?
Meet your Veterinarian
Dr. Katie Manning Brady graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and completed her clinical rotation at Louisiana State University. Her love and passion for animals started as a child, where the incredible bonds she developed with animals fueled her desire to become a veterinarian. She sees every day as an opportunity to offer the best care and is an advocate for compassionate, high-quality medicine for each and every one of her patients. When not at work, she enjoys riding horses and spending time with her husband, three dogs, and four cats.
Meet the team
Tabitha Bandvold
Certified Veterinary Assistant
Tabitha Bandvold grew up with a dream of working with animals. She got her chance in Key West while her husband was stationed there, and now works as a Certified Veterinary Assistant. She is especially interested in dentistry, surgery and neonates, and loves the positive atmosphere and team morale at the hospital. Everyone at PVS Southern Pines is on the same page about providing the best care for patients and creating a positive experience for pet parents. She has fostered and rehabilitated around 100 pets and is currently looking after 12 dogs and two cats. When she’s not working with animals, she enjoys home decorating and going to scary movies with her friends.
Jadelyn “JC” Crifasi Thomas
Assistant
Jadelyn “JC” Crifasi Thomas grew up in a family that rescued, rehabilitated and raised animals of all kinds. She later discovered a passion for medicine and caring for others as an EMT and now applies that passion to veterinary medicine. Her favorite part about PVS Southern Pines is the genuine love the team has for the work and the well-being of patients. She continues to rescue animals and has rehabilitated over 500 dogs in North Carolina and Mississippi, and still holds onto a picture or nametag of most of them. She enjoys singing, playing instruments and spending time with her wife and three dogs, Poppie, Cocoa and Groot.
Anna Wiltshire

Now a Registered Veterinary Technician at PSV Southern Pines, she takes pride in bettering pet healthcare and advocating for her patients. Frequently asked questions
We offer high-quality medicine from a skilled staff in a warm, welcoming environment. We also offer same-day appointments and in-house diagnostics. Beyond medicine, we aim to build close and lasting relationships with pet parents and patients.
We offer a broad range of services including urgent and emergency care. We most commonly see pets for wellness/preventative visits and skin and ear (dermatology) cases.
We often see severe dental disease in small breeds; ear infections in Doodles, Labs, Goldens and Cocker Spaniels; and heat stroke and BAOS in Brachycephalics
Our hospital combines high-quality small-animal medicine with the personal relationships and individualized attention of a locally owned practice. Because our decisions are made here—not in a corporate office—we have the freedom to focus on what matters most: the health of your pet, the needs of your family and the well-being of our community. We know our patients, value long-term relationships and treat every pet with the same care and respect we would want for our own.
Starting your pet on a high quality food is essential, as is ensuring all vaccine series are completed. Socialize your puppies to create well-rounded adults and have patience with potty training. Please feel free to ask us as many questions as you’d like — we’re here to help and educate!
Yes, PetSmart Veterinary Services hospitals are located inside select PetSmart stores. These clinics provide comprehensive care for pets ranging from wellness checks to vaccines and select hospitals offer urgent care treatment including infections, coughing, or vomiting. Contact your local PetSmart to confirm the availability of specific services.
PetSmart Veterinary Services hospitals provide a variety of vaccines for both dogs and cats, including vaccines for rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and more. However, services may vary by location, so it’s best to contact your local PetSmart to confirm their current offerings. Please note some PetSmart Veterinary Services urgent care locations don’t offer vaccinations.
In general, dog vaccines can be divided into two categories: core vaccines and non-core vaccines.
Core vaccines are those that every dog should receive, regardless of lifestyle or location. These include:
- Rabies: Required by law in most areas due to its potential to infect humans.
- Distemper: Protects against a highly contagious and often deadly disease.
- Parvovirus: Protects against a very serious, highly contagious viral illness.
- Adenovirus (Hepatitis): Protects against a virus that causes liver disease.
Non-core vaccines are administered depending on the dog’s exposure risk. These may include vaccines for diseases such as:
- Bordetella Bronchiseptica (kennel cough)
- Borrelia Burgdorferi (Lyme disease)
- Leptospira bacteria (Leptospirosis)
- Canine influenza (Dog Flu)
- Parainfluenza
- Canine Coronavirus
The frequency of vaccinations can also depend on several factors such as the dog’s age, medical history, lifestyle, and habits. Puppies typically receive a series of vaccines starting at 6-8 weeks of age and continuing every 2-4 weeks until they are at least 16 weeks old. Adult dogs might receive certain vaccines annually, while others might be given every 3 years or longer. Always consult with a veterinarian about the best vaccination schedule for your specific dog, as they can provide the most personalized and accurate advice.
For additional details about dog vaccine schedules, please review our Puppy Vaccine Guide or this puppy vaccine short from Dr. Hodges, DVM, of PetSmart Veterinary Services.
- Grooming: To maintain a safe, comfortable environment, we require all pets to be current on their rabies vaccinations and to wait at least 48 hours after any vaccinations before checking in. Proof of rabies vaccination in the form of paperwork is required. The waiting period helps to ensure your pet isn’t sore at the injection site, which can cause irritability or lethargy. This waiting period also is to prevent stressing a pet who may be experiencing an unexpected allergic reaction from a vaccine/vaccination. Puppies and kittens between 8 weeks and 4 months of age (3 months in Indiana) may receive services in the salon without vaccinations. In New York City, 6-month Bordetella and DHPP with Adenovirus are also required. In Iowa, DPP with Adenovirus is required. In Connecticut, proof of town license is required. Please note: All pets must be in good health prior to receiving any grooming services.
- PetsHotel & Doggie Day Camp: Vaccinations must be administered at least 48 hours prior to arrival under the guidance of a licensed veterinarian. However, we prefer vaccinations be administered 10-14 days before check-in to ensure maximum efficiency. Written proof is required. You must also show proof of your pet meeting state and local pet boarding vaccination requirements. Please check with your local PetSmart to verify/confirm your local requirements. For cat PetsHotel guests to stay, we also require FVRCP.
- DPP with Adenovirus (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza) 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required
- Bordetella Required every 6 months (or as required under the applicable law of your jurisdiction or residence) and at least 48 hours prior to check-in to ensure maximum efficiency and protection against Kennel Cough. Please note that many veterinarians administer this vaccine only by request.
- FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus & Panleukopenia) (for cats) 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required
- Rabies 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required
- Canine Influenza (for dogs) Not required, but highly recommended to help protect against the Canine Influenza respiratory illness. Consult your veterinarian.
- Leptospirosis Not required, but highly recommended to help protect against the Leptospirosis infection. Consult your veterinarian.
Fleas & Ticks In addition to vaccinations, all pets should be flea and tick free. Overnight and Day Camp guests with signs of fleas and/or ticks will not be permitted to check-in at PetsHotel.
